  • The Lumix DMC-GH2 - a Truly Creative Machine that Redefines the System Camera
Panasonic's highly popular Lumix DMC-GH1 has now evolved to exciting new levels that far exceed expectations on all fronts. In addition to providing even higher quality movies, the new DMC-GH2 offers dramatically improved still-image performance. Appearing as the new flagship model of the LUMIX G series with advanced functions and high performance in an elegant new body, the DMC-GH2 maintains the Micro Four Thirds System standard advantages of compactness and light weight, while providing even greater shooting enjoyment. Camera performance has advanced with intuitive touchscreen control, a new 16.05-megapixel Live MOS sensor and Venus Engine FHD. Photos are more precise. Movies are smoother than ever before. The new Lumix DMC-GH2 - a truly creative machine.

16.05 Megapixel High Speed Live MOS Sensor
The newly developed 16.05-megapixel multi-aspect Live MOS Sensor adopts the high speed digital νMaicovicon. In addition to high speed (an advantage of the CMOS sensor) Panasonic adds its unique pixel mix technology. A dedicated process developed exclusively for the νMaicovicon of the Lumix DMC-GH2 was achieved by applying a top-class high-performance transistor and the interconnection process required for the high-speed operation of a digital circuit for a low-noise photodiode. As a result, both high resolution and an excellent S/N (Signal-to-Noise) ratio are achieved with an improvement of more than 3 dB in noise and double sensitivity. Plus, it helps to realize the high speed burst shooting at 5 fps in 16.05-megapixel full resolution using a mechanical shutter and max.40 fps using an electronic shutter.

3.0" Free Angle Touch LCD with improved Colour Reproduction
The DMC-GH2 has a 3.0-inch 3:2 460,000-dot free-angle Touch LCD that rotates 180° to the side and tilts 270° up and down, while giving you a field of view of approximately 100%. This is a highly practical feature for high-angle shots, like when you need to shoot over the heads of people at a parade, and enables accurate, dynamic framing for artistic low-angle shots, such as shooting near ground level.

Multi Aspect Wide Screen 1.53MP Live View Finder
The LVF (Live View Finder) on the Lumix DMC-GH2 was re-designed to form a Multi Aspect Wide Screen LVF. Increasing the display area to 1,533,600-dot equivalent resolution, the new LVF boasts 0.71x magnification and a 100% field of view. The new LVF assures stunning image viewing for every subject in every scene. The DMC-GH2's Live View is made possible by the Live MOS sensor. Signals are taken directly from the image sensor and sent continuously to the LCD in real time.

The World's Fastest Level of Light Speed Auto Focus (AF)
The DMC-GH2 precisely captures moving subjects at higher speeds than other models can. It features the world's fastest level Light Speed AF of approximately 0.1 second,* which is achieved by reducing the detection time for focusing by doubling the drive speed from 60 frames per second to 120 frames per second. Both the accuracy and the speed of the advanced contrast AF system in the DMC-GH2 far exceed high-end digital SLRs with phase difference AF.
    * The time for focusing on the subject is measured using the DMC-GH2 mounted with the LUMIX G VARIO HD 14-140mm / F4.0- 5.8 ASPH. / MEGA O.I.S. (H-VS014140) lens** and moving the lens position from "infinity" to "2m." The zoom position is in the wide-angle range. A Panasonic measurement method is used. ** Firmware must be updated to Version 1.3 or later.

High-Sensitivity Shooting Up to 12800 ISO
The Live MOS sensor and Venus Engine FHD have been totally refined to raise camera performance and render stunning images with high resolution, beautiful gradation and high sensitivity. A maximum sensitivity setting of ISO12800 allows shooting in extremely dark places.

Full HD Movie Recording in AVCHD Format
There are always two options to record spur-of-the-moment scenes: high-quality photos or Full-HD movies. You can simply choose the one that saves your precious memories most beautifully with the DMC-GH2. The AVCHD format features almost twice the recording time in HD quality than the conventional Motion JPEG. And now, the DMC-GH2 can record high resolution full HD 1,920 x 1,080 movies in astonishingly smooth 50i ,doubling the sensor output from 25p to 50p.

1080p/24P Cinema Mode with 24Mbps Movie Recording
The DMC-GH2 supports 1080/24p with 24 Mbps, the highest in the AVCHD format, to bring impressive images to movies. In addition, the newly added Cinema mode option (selectable in Film mode) gives movies a rich, cinema-like gradation.

Custom Mode for Frequently Used Settings
Custom mode stores up to three sets of frequently used settings in memory, for instant recall with the mode dial.

5FPS Burst Shooting with High Resolution
The DMC-GH2 can fire off up to approx. 5 frames per second in full 16.05-megapixel resolution with its mechanical shutter. Even higher-speed burst shooting is possible with the DMC-GH2 when the electronic shutter is used - 40 fps at 4-megapixel resolution.* Great for capturing race cars and other subjects that are difficult to catch with the naked eye.
    * In high-speed burst shooting at 40 fps, the picture size is a maximum of 4 megapixels (4:3), 3.8 megapixels (3:2), 2 megapixels (16:9) or 3 megapixels (1:1).

3D Shooting Capability with the World's First Digital 3D Interchangeable Lens
With the world's first* introduction of a digital interchangeable lens to make 3D shooting possible with an interchangeable lens system camera, Panasonic lets you enjoy high-quality shooting in 3D on your Lumix DMC-GH2. This new compact 3D-capable interchangeable lens, LUMIX G 12.5mm / F12, allows easier handling and instant 3D shooting with cameras without a special structure for 3D shooting. It produces 3D images without distortion or time lag between left and right images, even for moving objects. 3D images, even close-up shots, taken with this lens are easy on the eyes when viewed on VIERA 3D TVs. Panasonic made a breakthrough by adding this special way of unprecedented expression in photography with outstanding ease with the innovative technology.

    Lumix G Vario 14-42mm / F3.5-5.6 ASPH / MEGA O.I.S. Lens
Featuring the high mobility thanks to the ultra-compact size and lightweight, the new LUMIX G VARIO 14-42 mm / F3.5-5.6 ASPH. / MEGA O.I.S. lens offers a versatile zoom range of 14-42 mm (35 mm camera equivalent: 28-84 mm) suitable for a wide range of scenes from dynamic landscape to portrait. The lens system features excellent contrast at entire zoom range and the inclusion of an aspherical lens improves optical performance by minimising distortion, even at the 28 mm wide end. Adopting an inner focus system driven by a stepping motor, the superior optical design realises outstanding smoothness to support the high speed AF system of LUMIX G cameras.

The new LUMIX G VARIO 14-42 mm / F3.5-5.6 ASPH / MEGA O.I.S. lens incorporates Panasonic's MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabiliser), which makes it easy to shoot super clear shots even in low-lit situations by suppressing the blur caused by a hand shake. When mounted on the cameras of Lumix G Micro System, users can take advantage of the contrast AF system and the convenient functions applied from it.

With its minimum focus distance of 30 cm even at full zoom, the new lens provides a maximum photographic magnification of 0.32x (35 mm equivalent). 7 aperture blades consists a circular aperture diaphragm and produces an attractive smoothness in out-of-focus areas even shooting at large aperture. The new lens system uses multi-coated lens elements that reduce ghosts and flare to an absolute minimum, helping deliver a high optical performance.
